This. My parents could not afford to send me to college, but made too much for me to get much in the way of grants (i.e. anything over poverty). I had kickass grades and a lot of scholarships. I would never have made it through school without loans, and it was worth it.
I’ve been out of grad school for 14 years, and I am still paying off my student loans. I will be paying off my loans for another 16 years.
I will finish paying my loans when I am 57 years old.
Tell me there isn’t something wrong with this system.
It is ridiculous. I had a tuition fund that paid for my classes up until the 5th year (my parents paid into it since I was 6), I had a few small grants (nothing special), a decent job for 3 of the 5 years, worked at my parents’ car wash, and I still had to take out like 22k just to support myself living on my own and to buy supplies. I only lived on my own for the last year— before that I had room mates to split rent with.
Thank fucking god for IBR
now I live in a trailer in my mom’s front yard 9_6
and I went to a PUBLIC IN-STATE SCHOOL
